Professional Bio

After 5 years in a Marine Corps helicopter squadron, including deployments to Afghanistan and shipboard operations, I discovered that my drive to serve was best applied in healthcare. Following my service, I earned a bachelor's degree in exercise science and a Master of Science in Nursing with a graduate certificate in global health. As a Registered Nurse in the Medical Intensive Care Unit, I thrive in fast-paced, high-stakes environments where analytical thinking and team collaboration are critical to saving lives. Now, I am bridging the gap between direct care and systemic change as an MPH student concentrating on humanitarian health. My goal is to apply my experiences in clinical and austere environments to tackle global health challenges.INTERESTS
- Protecting health services in conflict areas
- Neglected communicable diseases
- Combating human trafficking (including Bacha Bazi)

Experiences

I currently serve as a Registered Nurse on the Medical Intensive Care Unit at Johns Hopkins Hospital providing bedside care to high acuity patients with complex cases, including mechanical ventilation, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, continuous renal replacement therapy, and continuous intravenous medication management. In addition, I hold an auxiliary nursing position with the Bio-containment Unit. This specialized unit, part of the Special Pathogens Center at Johns Hopkins, activates in response to cases of highly infectious, high consequence diseases like Ebola.

Personal Interests

A California native, I grew up backpacking and hiking the Sierra Nevadas and continue to love exploring trails today. Now on the East Coast, I enjoy discovering the Appalachian trail and all the mid Atlantic has to offer. I also inherited my mom's nack for candy making - chocolate truffles are a favorite of mine. When I'm not at work or studying, I try to stay active, practice Farsi (kheyli yekami balidam), and spend time with my partner, family, and friends.
